Using To rngvist- Theil index and growth accounting methodology, we investigate TFP and its contribution to output growth in maize production over the period 1985～ 2003. The results of this study indicate the maize TFP grew at 2.23% annually, which contributed 66.13% of output growth. This study also points out that the reform of grain production and marketing policy, the creation and sp read of techno logy and the change of maize market price w ere important causes for the variance of maize TFP growth.
